Southwestern Advantage Intern Spotlight: Taylor Blaylock

How Taylor Found Success in Our Summer Internship Program

Taylor Blaylock, a junior at the University of North Texas, just finished her first summer in the Southwestern Advantage Internship Program. Her journey with Southwestern Advantage began when a fellow peer surveyed her class. She instantly knew that the program and its’ culture was something she wanted to join. Blaylock was a Top First Year in the summer program. She won multiple awards including the ‘I Wanna Win Award’, ‘Gold Seal Gold’, ‘Superstar Sample Case’, and the Sizzler incentive trip.

Blaylock is majoring in marketing with a concentration in professional selling. Taylor not only is an impressive student with a 4.0 GPA, but she is also active in her school’s Greek Life. She is a part of the Alpha Phi sorority and the Order of Omega.

Originally from Denton, Texas, Blaylock traveled to Jamestown, Virginia, where she stayed with a local host family and shared educational resources with families in the area. Taylor said that the most difficult part of her summer job was the daily rejection and learning how to coach herself. It was all worth it though because she loved the reward of serving others and strengthening her relationship with God. Blaylock also shared that she gained many new skills such as, networking, listening, communication, discipline, and leadership.

Since the summer, Taylor has been sharing her internship experience with her peers and working on her team-building skills. Her Direct Sales Leader chose Taylor to represent their sales division as a marketing ambassador.

What Does the Future Hold for Intern and Marketing Major Taylor?

Taylor has big goals for her future. She wants to own and operate multiple investment properties, have a family, get her real estate license, and maintain her GPA throughout college. In ten years, she wants to have several avenues of passive income, be married with children, travel to a new country annually, be a public speaker, and have purchased a primary residence with land. Blaylock is confident that her experience in the summer internship program will help her reach her goals because it has taught her the importance of listening and how to ask the right questions to fulfill the consumer’s need.

Taylor is participating in the Southwestern Advantage Sales Program again next summer because she said that being a part of the program, “was the best decision I’ve made in my life.” She believes that there is no other opportunity in the world that will prepare her and her peers so effectively for their career, personal, and professional relationships.
